Carter Inn Mural
Ten Sleep, Wyoming
Exterior Mural and Signage
Project Brief:
For Carter Inn, HMDC designed and painted a large-scale exterior mural that transformed the inn into a visual landmark at one of the most prominent entrances to town. Located on the southern approach to Ten Sleep, the building is one of the first things visitors encounter as they arrive, creating an opportunity to make a stronger first impression while celebrating the character of this small western community. Working with the building's existing color palette, the mural was designed to feel integrated into the architecture while dramatically increasing its visibility and sense of place.
The artwork combined vintage western typography, classic sign-painting influences, and equestrian imagery to satisfy the owner's request for horses while creating a timeless western aesthetic. Rather than feeling like a contemporary mural applied to a building, the goal was to create something that looked as though it had been part of the town's history for generations. The result is a vibrant and welcoming piece that gives the Carter Inn a stronger presence within the community, helping the property stand out in a town many travelers pass through while reinforcing the authenticity, hospitality, and western heritage that define the region.
