Project Brief:

For Gather, HMDC designed and painted a large-scale interior mural that transformed a blank wall into a defining feature of the dining experience. Inspired by classic landscape paintings and vintage American illustration, the mural was conceived as a timeless backdrop that would complement the restaurant's atmosphere while adding warmth, character, and a stronger sense of place. Rather than competing with the space, the artwork was designed to feel as though it had always belonged there, an extension of the restaurant's personality and environment.

The mural itself was an exercise in patience, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. Covering a substantial portion of the interior, the piece required countless hours of meticulous hand painting to achieve the depth, texture, and layered visual quality that define traditional landscape work. That commitment to execution reflects one of HMDC's core strengths within environmental design: the willingness to pursue ambitious, labor-intensive projects that create lasting impact. Beyond its visual appeal, the mural helps expand the perceived scale of the restaurant, introducing a sense of depth and atmosphere that makes the space feel larger, more immersive, and more memorable for guests.
